An Afternoon to Remember!
On September 7, 2007, UDPREP hosted its annual meeting and fundraiser at Byron Colby Barn at Prairie Crossing in Grayslake.
Over 100 UDPREP members and guests spent the afternoon learning more about UDPREP's work, hearing a terrific keynote address by Commissioner Sam Adams of the City of Portland, Oregon, and taking guided tours of the interesting stormwater features at Prairie Crossing.
The event began with an informal reception at historic Byron Colby Barn.
The Formal Program
Linda Wiens of the Prairie Crossing Institute opened the event with a welcome to
Prairie Crossing.
President Patty Werner called the business meeting to order and welcomed members and guests. Patty acknowledged the work of the Planning Committee over the last year and introduced the Executive Committee candidates. Patty also thanked the meeting sponsors.
Highlights of the Past Year
Patty provided a brief overview of UDPREP's accomplishments over the past year. Starting with events, she talked about the Des Plaines River Fish Sanctuary Project event, the green building themed watershed tour , and the rain garden educational event.
Patty noted that UDPREP launched its "Brown Bag Briefing" speaker series in 2006. UDPREP held two of these lunchtime gatherings over the past year, one on youth labor `for conservation projects and one on the impacts of—and alternatives to— rock salt for managing winter roads .
Patty also talked about UDPREP's educational project connected with the 50th anniversary of the Des Plaines River Canoe Marathon . She displayed one of the temporary educational signs installed along the river during the marathon, and she talked about the corresponding River Tales publication.
Finally, Patty talked about UDPREP's proposal review services for the 319 and C2000 grant programs. She provided highlights of the many proposals UDPREP reviewed over the past year and updates on total funds raised and on-the-ground restoration projects completed.
Officer Election and By-Law Amendment
