"Green Seams for Green Dreams"

Highlights of UDPREP's 2010 Annual Meeting

The 2010 annual meeting featured two great speakers!  Peg Kohring of the Conservation Fund described the Milwaukee Reclamation Districts, Green Seams program.  This innovative program was inspired by flooding problems experienced in the Milwaukee Sewerage District.  Peg described the long, sometimes frustrating, but ultimately successful project that revitalized neighborhoods, solved flooding problems, and restored regional floodplains and wetlands in the Milwaukee area.  Bill Davis of the Lake County Forest Preserve District presented a summary of the land protection activities of the Forest Preserve  over the past several years.  Not only has significant progress been made in land protection, but the preservation has inspired the restoration of wetlands and the removal of a dam that will benefit habitat  and properties downstream as well.  In addition to the great speakers, UDPREP approved the clarification to its bylaws and the election of its officers and directors.  The crowd of municipal leaders, environmental professionals, homeowners and stakeholders had lots of questions for the speakers and had delicious snacks provided by volunteer bakers.  Special thanks to our great Chairman, Patty Werner, for leading the meeting and SMC for providing the beautiful space!
