Village of Lincolnshire
The Village of Lincolnshire has constructed two rain gardens that are accessible to the public. One is located at Rivershire Nature Center (pictured at left) at 45 Londonderry Lane. The other is on the east side of Memorial Park off of Riverwoods and Route 22. The rain garden at Rivershire Nature Center is used as a teaching tool by School District 103.

Entrance to the property: intersection of Route 45 and Buckley Road (Route 137), Grayslake, IL

Around 40-50 of the residential lots in this nationally recognized “conservation community” have rain gardens. There is also a 20,000 square foot public rain garden in the cul-de-sac at the intersection of Prairie Trail and Goldenrod Streets (photo at right). Installed in late 2001, this garden is both beautiful and functional – it filters the stormwater of eight nearby homes.

Visit the Prairie Crossing web site.

Please note: when school is in session, it is best to access the garden from the rear entrance to school property at the intersection of Rand Rd. and Third Ave. in Des Plaines.
Known as "Cumberland Prairie", this 12,000 square foot garden was planted in 1999 by Cumberland students, parents, and teachers. Ken Schaefer, naturalist at Oakton Community College, donates his time to maintain the garden.

The photo at left shows the Cumberland rain garden on the left side of the image and the school playfields on the right.
