PLANNING GUIDE

  • In summer 2007, The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, in cooperation with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), published the Guidance for Developing Watershed Action Plans in Illinois. This easy-to-read guide serves as a road map for communities that are interested in developing comprehensive watershed-based plans. More importantly, IEPA directs the majority of funding from its "319 Grant Program" to the types of plans described in the Guidance. In other words, projects connected with comprehensive watershed-based plans are given funding priority by IEPA.

Free DPR Poster Maps

The updated “Discover the Des Plaines River Watershed” is now available. Revised in late 2005, this full-color poster includes a 1’x 3’ map of the entire Des Plaines River Watershed, including key place-names, county lines, and subwatershed boundaries. The poster also features “what you can do” tips, helpful resources, and highlights of the watershed’s history and challenges.

The Lake Co. Stormwater Management Commission (SMC) worked with UDPREP, the Des Plaines Watershed Team, USFWS, the Lower Des Plaines River Ecosystem Partnership and others to update the poster – which was originally developed in 1997. SMC paid for printing and production.
